Engraving Hangers for the Vogue Vintage Sale: A Surreal Workshop Moment

Vogue… you all know me, not the greatest with fashion 😅

Most days I’m in the workshop covered in sawdust, working with wood and making one-off pieces. So being involved in something like the Vogue Vintage Sale in London felt pretty surreal from the start.

But somehow, I got the opportunity to engrave all the coat hangers for the event 👀

From Sawdust to Vogue

When I first heard about it, I honestly thought, “Wait… me?” The idea that something I’d made would be part of such a big event surrounded by incredible vintage fashion felt a bit mad (in a good way).

The Making Process

Normally, every item I make is completely unique, that’s kind of the whole point of what I do. But this project was a bit different. This time, consistency was key.

I had 725 hangers to engrave, and every single one needed to look exactly the same. Same positioning, same depth, same finish over and over again. It was a bit of a shift from my usual way of working, but a really satisfying challenge.

There were three different types of hangers to work through: suit hangers, trouser hangers, and broader hangers. Each one had its own quirks, but the broader hangers were definitely the trickiest.

Because of the wider ends, they wouldn’t sit flat in the same way as the others, so I had to come up with a more complicated setup to hold them properly in place. Getting them level was key to making sure the engraving came out clean and consistent across the whole batch.

It took a bit of trial and error, but once everything was dialled in, it became a rhythm repeat, refine, repeat.

A Small Part of Something Big

The sale itself is full of amazing vintage pieces, and it feels a bit surreal knowing something I’ve made is part of it all.

I’m really grateful to have been trusted with the job, and proud to play a small part in something that celebrates both style and giving things a second life.

If you made it down to the event, I hope you had a great time and maybe even noticed the hangers (and the clothes too, of course ☺️).
