Celebrating the Future of Formby National Trust with CHC
🌾 Crafted in Wood, Rooted in Nature, Celebrating the Future of Formby with CHC, I love celebrating nature, community, and thoughtful craftsmanship, so being asked to work together on a project connected to one of the UK’s most inspiring conservation initiatives felt incredibly special. I was delighted to team up with CHC to create a series of hand-crafted wooden coasters and large engraved logs to mark the completion of the Future of Formby project, led by the National Trust at Formby.
🌊 The Future of Formby Project The Future of Formby project focuses on restoring the fragile sanddune system at Formby’s Victoria Road coastline. Over the past year, large amounts of old construction rubble, material that had been disrupting natural coastal processes, were carefully removed and repurposed, allowing the dunes to function more naturally again. This vital work supports rare wildlife such as sand lizards and natterjack toads, while helping to protect and future-proof this beautiful stretch of coastline for both nature and people.
🌳 Wood from Formby, made with care. One of the most meaningful parts of this project was that the wood used for the coasters and engraved logs came directly from the National Trust site at Formby. Using timber sourced from the very landscape the project is helping to protect made the process feel especially connected and intentional. The wood was carefully prepared and transformed into pieces designed to last, allowing material from the site to live on in a new form, carrying the story of place, people, and conservation with it.
🪵 Marking the Moment with Wood To celebrate the completion of this important phase of the project, I created: Wooden coasters, engraved with the names of the sponsors who helped make the project possible, National Trust, Dynamic Dunescapes, Stace, Civic, Simply Ecology, e3p, Life and Natura 2000. Larger engraved logs, designed as meaningful statement pieces to honour the collective effort behind the work. Each item was made with care, using wood as a natural storytelling material, something that felt especially fitting for a project so closely tied to landscape, heritage, and sustainability. These pieces are designed to be keepsakes: tactile reminders of what can be achieved when people come together with a shared purpose.
🤝 Working Together with Purpose Working side by side with CHC on this project has been genuinely rewarding. For me, it was about more than engraving names into wood; it was about helping to tell the story of conservation, community, and care for place. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone involved in the Future of Formby project: the National Trust teams, volunteers, sponsors, and the wider community who continue to support this unique and precious environment. It’s been a privilege to contribute in my own small way. Here’s to celebrating nature, shared effort, and the stories we leave behind, carved in wood.
